Energy Amateur Scientists (HEAS) Richard Hull and his High Energy Amateur Science (HEAS) group of Richmond, Virginia have advanced a concept for demonstrating electrostatic principles in his lab using a variation of the Electro Wand. Members attending the monthly HEAS meetings have been having fun developing different configurations and methods of levitation. In one instance, T.R. Leary was able to levitate a 24" diameter Ring Flyer using a long tube of ordinary PVC pipe. The ring shown in the photo was first fashioned with Flyer ribbon by gluing the ends together. Then it was crumpled, attached to the charged wand, and released by shaking it loose. The repelling charges of the wand and the Ring Flyer caused it to electrostatically inflate and hover above the wand. T.R. was then able to control the direction of ring movement by steering it with the wand. Amazing! |
